Getting Started with Upstream

A quick guide to setting up your Upstream account and uploading your first documents.

Welcome to Upstream! This guide walks you through setting up your account and uploading your first documents.

Step 1: Create Your Account

  1. Visit upstream.app/signup and create an account with your work email or Google
  2. Complete the onboarding wizard — choose your role and take a quick tour
  3. You'll land on your dashboard, ready to go

Step 2: Upload Your First Document

Upstream works with several document types:

  • Call transcripts — From Gong, Chorus, or plain text exports
  • Meeting notes — Google Docs, Notion exports, or markdown
  • Strategy documents — Competitive analyses, positioning docs, market research
  • Customer feedback — Survey results, support tickets, NPS comments

To upload:

  1. Click Upload in the left sidebar
  2. Drag and drop your file or click to browse
  3. Upstream will automatically extract entities, relationships, and key themes

Step 3: Explore Your Knowledge Graph

After uploading, visit the Knowledge tab to see:

  • Entities — People, companies, products, and themes extracted from your documents
  • Relationships — How entities connect across your documents
  • Patterns — Recurring themes and trends

Step 4: Ask Questions

Use the Chat tab to ask questions across your knowledge base:

  • "What are the most common objections prospects mention?"
  • "Summarize what customers said about [feature]"
  • "Which companies did we discuss in the last 5 calls?"

Step 5: Generate Artifacts

The Artifacts tab lets you create deliverables from your knowledge base:

  • Competitive battle cards
  • Customer personas
  • Call briefing documents
  • Executive summaries

Tips for Best Results

  • Upload regularly — The more data Upstream has, the smarter it gets
  • Mix document types — Call transcripts + strategy docs + feedback gives the richest intelligence
  • Invite your team — When multiple team members contribute, everyone benefits from compound intelligence
