Planning Sprints

Organize your work into epics, sprints, and tasks with AI-assisted planning.

Planning Sprints

The Sprint Planner helps you organize work into manageable pieces, track progress, and use AI to accelerate your planning process. Whether you are running a product team, coordinating a marketing campaign, or managing a cross-functional initiative, the Sprint Planner gives you structure without overhead.

Three levels of organization

Epics

Epics are high-level initiatives that represent a major goal or theme. Examples: "Q2 Product Launch," "Enterprise Onboarding Redesign," or "Competitive Positioning Overhaul." An epic contains one or more sprints.

Sprints

Sprints are time-bound blocks of work within an epic. Each sprint has a start date, end date, and a set of tasks to complete. Keep sprints short enough to maintain momentum -- one to two weeks is a common choice.

Tasks

Tasks are individual work items within a sprint. Each task is a concrete action someone can pick up and complete. Good tasks are specific and scoped: "Write pricing comparison page" rather than "Work on website."

Task properties

Every task has the following properties:

  • Status -- Where the task stands in your workflow:

    • Todo -- Not yet started
    • In Progress -- Someone is actively working on it
    • Review -- Work is done and needs review
    • Done -- Completed and verified
  • Priority -- How urgent or important the task is:

    • Critical -- Must be done immediately; blocks other work
    • High -- Important and should be completed this sprint
    • Medium -- Should be done but can wait if higher-priority work comes in
    • Low -- Nice to have; do it if time allows
  • Story points -- A relative estimate of effort. Use whatever scale your team prefers. Story points help you gauge how much work fits in a sprint.

  • Assignee -- The person responsible for completing the task.

  • Tags -- Labels for categorizing tasks (e.g., "frontend," "content," "integration"). Tags make it easy to filter and find related tasks.

  • Subtasks -- Break a task into smaller steps. Each subtask can be checked off independently, giving you a progress indicator within the task.

Three views

Board

The Board view shows your tasks in kanban-style columns organized by status. Drag tasks between columns to update their status. This view is best for daily standups and getting a quick read on sprint progress.

Tree

The Tree view displays your full hierarchy: epics at the top, sprints nested underneath, and tasks within each sprint. Use this view when you need to see the big picture and understand how individual tasks connect to larger initiatives.

Chat

The Chat view lets you interact with the AI to plan and manage your work. Use natural language to create tasks, reorganize your sprint, or ask for suggestions.

AI features

Generate plans from a prompt

Describe what you want to accomplish and the AI generates a structured plan. For example:

  • "Plan a two-week sprint to launch our new pricing page."
  • "Break down our Q2 competitive analysis into tasks."
  • "Create an epic for migrating our help center to the new platform."

The AI creates epics, sprints, and tasks with suggested priorities and story points. Review the generated plan and adjust as needed.

Task suggestions

When you are building out a sprint, the AI can suggest additional tasks you may have missed. It looks at your existing tasks and identifies gaps -- things like "Add error handling," "Write release notes," or "Update documentation" that are easy to overlook.

Complexity estimation

Not sure how to size a task? The AI can estimate complexity based on the task description and your team's historical patterns. Use this as a starting point for your own story point estimates.

Moving tasks between statuses

Update a task's status as work progresses:

  1. On the Board view, drag the task card to the appropriate column.
  2. On the Tree view, click the status badge on any task to change it.
  3. In the Chat view, tell the AI to update a task's status (e.g., "Move the pricing page task to In Progress").

Keep statuses current so your team always has an accurate picture of where things stand.
